Perception is Everything

I was just thinking about how our perception of our lives is more of a defining factor than the reality of our lives is. I mean yes, we can be in situations that we feel are difficult and we can also have days where we think things can’t possibly ever get any better. And then we can have days where the same situation that seemed wonderful now feels not so great. I mean, really! What is that? Hormones?! Just kidding! 😆

I mean sure that can play a part, but when you get down to it, isn’t it our feelings that really define our current reality?

For me it sure is. And lately, after doing much clearing work on myself and finally being able to find some peace and clarity on my life, I’m starting to realize that things are only ever as bad as my perception at the given time. It goes back to looking at things objectively so you can see what it is you are really supposed to be learning from the situation, rather than simply freaking out over it and running down the street screaming.

OK, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But think of it like this… say it is a situation you are super stressing about. How can you ever deal with it head on if you are crying, screaming, or running down the street, for that matter? You can’t.

The trick is, I think, to try to see things in as positive a light as you can – to be grateful for what you do have, rather than what you don’t. And when that doesn’t work, at least take the negative emotion out of it.

I’ve been trying to make a practice out of this lately – finding even the littlest things to be grateful for, and distancing myself from the things in life that only stress me out and no longer serve my growth and evolution as a person and a Soul. And you know, the funny thing is that the things I have to be grateful for  seem to be growing each time I think about it. I just don’t think I realized everything I did have to be grateful for, which is downright silly when you think about it. And why would the Universe, or anyone else for that matter, give us more if we aren’t grateful for what we already have?

So, I ask you, what are you grateful for today?
